Depressing News

The day we dread has finally come...

Mum's bone scan shows spread of cancer... a white spot is lit at the backbone... its really a very sad moment for the family... At least now we know the reason behind the pressing pain at the down left side abodmen mum has been experiencing since months back.. and at that time the ct scan shows nothing... so i tot its the post op side effects...

The radiation dr says the cancerous cells is pressing on the nerves which may be causing the pain... and mum has to do repeat ct scan again to confirm the bone is the only affected area.... if ct scan is negative... radiation may be used to relief the pain... but i do not know whether chemo is needed....

The results will be out on tues morning... another agonising wait...

Mum is definitely feel hopeless now... i guess more or less she knows with this spread.. there is no recovering... i feel so sad to see my mum has to face this news just months after surgery and chemo... thou i have been warned by mum ocologist that mum has a high chance of recurrence... but dint expect this to come so soon... mum just completed the chemo in jan... only 5 months a part...

Will be seeing Dr Khoo at glen on wed to discuss what is the next steps... i think i will ask him to give me my mum medical history... mum may need to do chemo over at ncc... since all her background info is there...and there is gonna be a long fight ahead so its too exp to have chemo over at glen... and the drug mum used before... is the common drug over at ncc too... so i guess the difference is not that great.... i believe mum will have good care over at ncc too... but not sure which dr is good....

Hi, I had bone mets to the spine, pelvis and ribs, which was diagnosed in Jul 07. i had radiation done to the spine and pelvis, which relieve much of the pain. I had been on monthly Zometa (intravenous) since then, and so far its under control. Wishing the best for your mum!

Girl, pls don't give up hope yet. I have been fighting this for the last five years... my longest remission is only 5 months. I know it's difficult and easier said than done, but stay strong for your mum. *hugs*

Dr Khoo is Dr Khoo Kei Siong? Maybe u can ask him to recommend a doc in NCC and still go to him for consultation since he has been following your mum's case. I still go to Dr See at Glen becos she has been with me for the last 4 yrs. I just make sure the doc at NCC knows I still see her and he/she is ok with this co-care or jt-care arrangement.

Just for your info, I'm also seeing Dr Ng at NCC now after Dr Wong left.

dear snowcloud

how have u been? im still logging on to your site regularly thou i did not leave any notes... notice u are not blogging as often as before...hope things are well with you...

my mum has been fighting this monster for the past 8 eights... with numerous surgeries... chemo...radiation... the list goes on...but just to be greeted with setbacks everytime..

yup..its dr khoo kei siong..he is a very nice and caring dr... a dr we need at this stressing time... but cost gonna be high so tot of transfering my mum to ncc too...

may u share with me this co-care... if i continue to see dr knoo.. can my mum still have chemo over at ncc? the use of the drug is determined by ncc dr or dr khoo? wont the dr at ncc be not happy that we dont trust their judgement?

you are also seeing dr ng.. u requested it or being assigned?

thanks so much for the concern..

Hi Kel,

I'm not too sure how it's going to be if u see another onco at NCC. Maybe u can check with Dr Khoo if there's any doc/onco at NCC he's on gd terms with to co-care your mum.

B4 Dr See left, she passed my case to Dr Chia. As for Dr Ng, it was Flora's suggestion, which i took up.

Also, it's poss to see Dr Khoo and another doc at NCC, administering chemo at NCC. Just explained your concerns and I'm sure they will understand. As for conflicts, let the doctors work out themselves. Shouldn't be a problem if they are of gd working r'ship b4.

Maybe u can also check ur mum's patient status i.e. subsidised or otherwise if she seeks treatment at NCC.

All the best! jiayou!
